Energy Is the New Currency

The Story

We are a society built on energy, even more than that we are energy ourselves – we produce energy just by existing – but especially through labor, through care, through shared hardship, through pure survival. Through pain and illness more energy is expended.

Our story, our civilizations are built on energy, and the way energy is used reflects on the current that shapes it.

When considering this, I came to the conclusion that the only true and fair mode of exchange is energy itself.

Fair, proportional trade of energy, based on need and output.

This is our story, the story of how we took back energy from the gods, as our own Prometheus.

Guiding Principles

Autonomy is the keystone of any functioning society. Autonomy does not mean freedom to do whatever you please, but the ability to choose and be a part of the choosing when something directly or indirectly affects your life.

Autonomy is deciding where your energy goes, and autonomy is receiving the energy you need to sustain your life.

Energy is everything—meat, plants, the soil, the sun, the earth’s core—every inch is composed of energy or packets of energy to the tiniest measurable unit.

It is in these measurable quantities that we find our metric for currency, not for extraction, but survival, and for thriving sustainably.

Real Life Impact

Imagine this: You’ve been working as a serf in the fields your entire life. You get the bare minimum—food, water, and a hut. Then, one day, you hear that your land is being enclosed so your lord can produce wool with sheep and that you are to leave immediately. This would change your life. And it did, for many.

This was the backbone of the industrial revolution: the mass mobilization of labor. Labor that was exploited for its energy output—energy that could have gone towards producing food for your family directly.

This has been the reality of industrialized labor for a long, long time. And with how things are going, it doesn’t seem to be going in a positive direction.

Now, you are a worker in an industrialized society, probably working a gig job, not for a wage, but on a contract with a company that displaces your energy potential for profit.

We want this to stop.

We want everyone to receive the energy they need, in whatever form, to sustain themselves and their livelihood. This is what Energy as Currency (EAC) aims to do.

Think if instead of working a job on a set schedule, you worked on available energy output, and received the necessary energy required to sustain yourself, not from a centralized entity, but an openly, verifiably, protected and distributed network of energy-labor feedback loops.

How Proportional Need Is Calculated

The ledger calculates proportional trade need using the following formula:

    ∫∫ (G₁ - G₂) dg dx
  

Where:

• G₁ is the available energy or good (supply)
• G₂ is the needed energy or good (demand)
• g is a variable such as price or regional scale
• x could be time or another dimension of variation

The double integral sums the difference between supply and demand across these variables. A positive result means surplus. A negative result means deficit. Zero means perfect equilibrium.

This model allows for a living, dynamic ledger that reflects the actual flow of energy and value between participants.
